The Midlands branch of the People's Movement, in cooperation with members of other No campaign groups in the same area, organised a small opinion poll on the reasons why Westmeath voted Yes in the second Lisbon referendum. You can see the survey sheet used in the attachment to this post. Attachments:

We found that the typical No voter was rural, female, younger, and more definite in their voting choice than the general population. You can read the whole statistical result of the survey as an attachment to this post. This image is just one page from it. Attachments:

The short films pressing for 'Yes' were implying that a 'Yes' result would mend the economy; a straw to grasp as banks were foreclosing on mortgages.

"short films"? It was all scaremongering about the economy alright. There is no question in my mind anyways that the Irish did not want to vote for any superstate etc but that's what they'll get though I think..

The People's Movement was the second largest 'No' group after Coir during the Lisbon thing. It was, and is I think, chaired by Patricia McKenna, who is a very good political leader by the way although I would disagree with her on some issues. We were quite active in the Midlands in that group, and then did the follow up opinion poll that you can read in the attachments on this page. You see we were also quietly double checking the result of the referendum, it was intended as kind of an Exit Poll to check any discrepanices in the voting etc. As it happens we were able to replicate the result of the vote and so no the referendum result was legitimate alright.

I apologise, I admit it is difficult to read in a way but don't forget that if you go into preferences in your account thing, and then change the skin away from the 'Ireland' one, then you can read the whole site in the normal script.
I guess its a bit ambitious but I wanted to create the very first website drawn up entirely in old Irish script. There is a lot of old script out there on the net but webmasters only use things like images embedded in the webpages to create the script whereas this site uses it as a genuine font. i do a lot of history and most of the old Irish books (everything pre 1960ish) and of course the old Irish manuscripts - which I sometimes have to read - are written in this exceptionally ancient script. I'd love to see it revived and any Irish I write in books I put in the old script.

A bit ambitious indeed. I suppose one would get used to it after a while.

I set the default skin back to normal so you can see what the forum will look like if you change your skin in preferences to 'default' instead of 'Ireland'. Any user can swap between the two fonts like this without the admin intervening, I am beginning to think people didn't realise that...ah well!
Btw did you ever think of adding a kind of 'chat' thing to realirishpolitics.org ? I think thats what we lack most in online Irish politics stuff, sometimes its not convenient putting things out on the web where a non cached chat type thing might be better?

I hadn't thought of that. I did not know that chat was not the same as every other section

I am sorry I am so lazy at replying, I am just doing a lot of research lately. Yes its a bit like facebook say where u have all the public, or semi public, wall etc but then you have the option to chat to someone if they are online and that is much more relaxing because it is totally private. I really think thats whats needed on a politics forum. Anyways whatever about such trivialties, the important question is what music do you like out there!lol Here are a few songs that I like anyways: antilisbongroups.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=reviews&thread=19&page=1 .
